The father was “broken” when he reached out to the HCJFS Child Support division. The 42-year-old father of three was unemployed, had a criminal conviction on his record and had failed to graduate from high school. But he wanted to do right by his two young sons, ages 11 and 7.

In the middle of April, a woman came into the OhioMeansJobs center seeking assistance. She explained that she had just come from South Carolina with $25 in her pocket and was currently staying with a friend. She was very distraught and explained that she had left her son with relatives until she could get settled in Cincinnati.

May is Public Assistance Fraud Awareness Month in Ohio, and HCJFS is spreading the word that “Fraud Costs All of Us.” Residents of Hamilton County can report suspected public assistance fraud by calling HCJFS at 513-946-2217 or going to www.hcjfs.org/fraud or www.jfs.ohio.gov/fraud.

Hamilton County Job and Family Services recently hired a veteran attorney to join its executive team and lead customer service improvement efforts.

Talia Bryan, customer complaint resolution administrator, will help ensure the agency is responsive to consumers and properly addresses complaints. She will root out trends in casework and consumer feedback to identify system improvements – all with an emphasis on equity and inclusion.

  Hamilton County’s Job and Family Services Planning Committee has postponed its April 27 meeting to 10 a.m. on May 18 at 222 E. Central Parkway, room 6SE701. The meeting of community stakeholders is open to the public.

Three HCJFS employees have been named winners of the agency’s ROCK STAR employee appreciation awards in the first quarter of 2018.

The three winners, chosen from a list of 10 nominees, are:

Tracey Cottrell, an eligibility technician in Transportation Services, in the Remarkable Single Acts category
Amador Dalieidys, an eligibility technician in Performance Improvement, in the Sustained Excellence category
David Wittenauer, a training specialist in Quality Assurance, in the Outstanding Ongoing Acts of Sacrifice

An innovative partnership to help food assistance recipients find work has earned the “Team Impact” award as part of Hamilton County’s 2018 Circle of Excellence.

The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue. According to the 2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6.4 million Americans abused controlled prescription drugs. The study shows that a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.
